There is a lack of social and cultural activities in our society. The ongoing terrorism and city gang wars prevalent disrupt not only the peace but also social reformation essential to growth of a society. Society stay in harmony when it comes together, organizing and participating together humbles one towards each other. One of the initiatives working towards a peaceful urban center is I am Karachi initiative which consists of many youngsters working with the city government and youth initiatives.
Partnered with the Pakistan Youth Alliance, PACC, Youth Parliament of Pakistan, Arts Council of Pakistan and many such big names. I am Karachi works with over 20 organizations to build peace and bring back the true essence of Karachi. This initiative brings color to the greyed society that often feels Arid. People involved in this initiative are Celebrities, Theatre directors, Businessman etc.
For People’s Cultural Involvement
This initiative hosts all sorts of social and cultural activities: Just the past months it hosted a festival ‘Mubarak Festival’ which included traditional ethnic dances, marching bands and little comedy skits representing the true essence of the city and its people. More of its programs are Kuchee Talkies which is a Travelling Film Festival and an actual Film Festival being hosted at Sea view Park. For the betterment of debates and greater space for intellectual debate, it hosts Baat cheet which is a debate forum and talks hosted at different venues around the city, at university etc.
To Facilitate the Youth
Youth of this city is looking for the reason to entertain them and the only source is watching cricket on television or watching television as the events have lessened with time due to the ongoing violence in the city. For that I am Karachi has a solution. Just last month it hosted a Travelogue, a course which included Travelling around the city and Photography with expert Photographers. The participants got to photograph and visit the places in Karachi they haven’t seen before. This sounds even more exciting in practical than written. The participants later wrote short stories, essays and Poems on Karachi through their experience.
To keep sustained the photo lovers, the initiative also hosted Insta Meet for all the Instagram users from Karachi to gather for a meet & greet and make new friends who share the same passion.
One of their latest Projects was the Wall paintings they did to remove all the dirt written on their walls, all the vulgar language replaced by colorful paintings representing Karachi. Painted by Truck artists, Students and artists. The Paintings looks as if one has switched to colorful television from a Black and white one. This Project received widespread media coverage around the world.
I am Karachi has an open-ended approach to its working as anyone who has an idea of Policy making, Event Organizing or Managing can join up the team to help bring about the happiness for the citizens.
